Jesus’ Power and Presence

The Solemnity of the Ascension is not about Jesus leaving humanity behind, but about His presence becoming universal and enduring. While the world constantly promises “unlimited” experiences, opportunities, or power, all of these are temporary. Christ alone offers what is truly without limit: eternal love, truth, mercy, and salvation.

Society often measures power by influence, wealth, technology, or popularity—things that rise and fall quickly.

Yet the Ascended Christ reveals a different kind of authority: one rooted in self-giving love and fidelity. His promise, “I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Mt 28:20), becomes the foundation of Christian hope. Everything and everyone changes, but His presence does not.

Discipleship is one important element of Ascension, which is not only a mystery to contemplate but a mission to live. Jesus entrusted His followers with the proclamation of the Gospel to every generation. In our time, this includes witnessing through daily actions, compassionate words, and even modern forms of communication. Social media and digital platforms can either spread division and negativity or become instruments of evangelization.

True unlimited power exists only in Jesus, which is profound because His power is not domination but redemption. Earthly power fades: Christ’s reign endures forever. As believers, we are called not merely to admire this truth but to live it confidently, bringing hope to those discouraged, clarity to those searching, and charity to those in need.

As we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, may we place our trust not in temporary powers of the world, but in Christ, whose love and presence never fail. Strengthened by His promise to remain with us always, may we courageously share the Good News and become signs of hope, truth, and compassion in today’s world.

The Gospel invites us to “ascend” beyond pettiness, anger, judgment, and excess, which is deeply practical and spiritual at the same time. Ascension is not only about Jesus going to the Father; it is also about raising our hearts and lives toward what is eternal. Let us all “travel light” and reduce the emotional, material, and spiritual burdens that weigh us down.

Be proclaimers of Good News! In a world filled with negativity, fear, and division, choosing to spread hope, encouragement, truth, and compassion is already a form of evangelization. Sometimes the most convincing proclamation of faith is not argument but kindness and peace.

Christian Faith is not merely believing that God exists but trusting that He walks with us through every burden, uncertainty, and trial.
