1st Advent A: Be Prepared

11-24-2019Weekly Reflection

"Be Prepared," this is the Boy Scout motto. This first Sunday of Advent, Mt. 24: 37- 44 tells us the two options Jesus says that we can take in life: to live in comfort and sin, or to be prepared and be righteous. In Christian life, complacency can be our biggest weakness, the Gospel tells us, "be prepared," for you do not know on which day your Lord will come.

Today is the First Sunday of Advent. It is the first day of preparation for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is the acceptable time of salvation, and the time to prepare to welcome the Baby Jesus into our hearts and our lives. It is the time for peace and reconciliation. It is also the time for giving and sharing the greatest gift of God, the Baby Jesus.

Because many of us can act foolishly and with so much pride, thinking that we can prepare and control any eventuality. In the Gospel, the Lord tells us that we can't, so Advent reminds us to "be prepared" to meet God, because we need Him in our life.

Today is the 1st day of December 2019, whatever our stories are this year, “Hey! we made it to another December.” Advent is the season reminding all of us to "be prepared," thus, don't postpone our conversion, like the greatest manifestation of God's love in the Baby Jesus, don't postpone our love. Let us resolve to make the rest of our lives the best of our lives now!

Somebody said, “Peace is yours when you have laid all things at His feet; when you have placed all things in His hands; when you have entrusted all things to His keeping; when you have released all things into His care; when you trust Him no matter what.”

“Life is full of uncertainties, and we’ll never know when our time on earth is up till it’s over, so share a lot, give much, take time to walk, see the stars, sing out loud, smile, forgive, reach out, smile at your God, because life is short, and every minute counts.”

Lord, help me to be prepared for anything, for anyone, and for anytime.
